Asian Pacific Islander Americans Stand with Phil Angelides

LOS ANGELES, CA - California State Treasurer and Democratic nominee for Governor Phil Angelides met with leaders from the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) community today in Los Angeles. Angelides was joined by Congressman Mike Honda, Board of Equalization Chairman John Chiang, Assemblymember Judy Chu, Assemblymember Ted Lieu, Monterey Park City Councilman Mike Eng, Los Angeles Community College District Trustee Warren Furutani, Assembly candidates Ferial Masry and Van Tamom.

"As the child and grandchild of immigrants, I am committed to renewing the promise of California for Asian Pacific Islander Americans and all Californians," said Angelides. "As Governor, I will cut taxes for middle class families and small businesses, strengthen education and put California back on the side of hard working families."

"As Governor, Phil Angelides will provide hope and opportunity for hard-working Californians," said Congressman Mike Honda. "I am proud to support Phil Angelides and I know he will be a Governor our community can be proud of."

"Treasurer Angelides knows that a high-quality education is the key to success," added Assemblymember Chu. "Phil Angelides will roll back Governor Schwarzenegger's tuition and fee increases and make it easier for Asian-American families to send their children to college."

Angelides also pledged to bring diversity to the California judiciary and reverse Governor Schwarzenegger's abysmal judicial appointments record. To date, Schwarzenegger has made 155 judicial appointments. However, only nine of those appointments have come from the APIA community.

"Phil Angelides will appoint judges that represent all of California's communities, including the Asian Pacific Islander American community," said Assemblymember Lieu.

"Asian Americans and all Californians know we need a Governor who stands on the side of families, not special interests," added Board of Equalization Chairman Chiang. "Phil Angelides will reorder our states priorities and stand up for working families."
