California Education Leaders Endorse Phil Angelides For Governor
Letter signed by 80 prominent education leaders praises Angelides as a candidate with "the vision, courage, and experience to lead our state"SACRAMENTO, CA - In a letter sent to thousands of educators, over 80 prominent California education leaders today endorsed Phil Angelides for Governor and urged their colleagues to join them in supporting Angelides' vision to make California schools the best for our children.
The letter, signed by education leaders including former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin, former California Secretary of Education Gary K. Hart, and California Teachers Association President Barbara Kerr among many others, praises Angelides as a candidate with "the vision, courage, and experience to lead our state."
"As Governor, Phil will challenge Californians to make our schools the best for all of our children," the letter says. "He will fight for the funding our schools need and deserve to meet the high academic standards California has set, and Phil will make the case that we once again need to use our wealth wisely to invest in our children's education. He will support and inspire educators, not bash them, and will work to attract the best people to the profession. He will take the lead to bring people together, building a movement that once again places California's schools at the center of our public dialogue and at the pinnacle of excellence."
Angelides' campaign has also been endorsed by education organizations including the California Teachers Association, Caifornia Faculty Association, California Federation of Teachers, California School Employees Association, Faculty Association of California Community Colleges, Los Angeles College Faculty Guild, and United Teachers Los Angeles.
In recent months Angelides has offered a series of detailed policy proposals including College Opportunity for All, a plan to roll back Schwarzenegger's tuition and fee increases at state colleges and universities, and Teachers for our Future, a proposal to attract the next generation of bright young people to the teaching profession.
