Supporting Stem Cell ResearchPhil Angelides is a proponent of Proposition 71, California’s landmark stem cell research initiative, and he is committed to doing everything possible to bring these bonds to market and fulfill Californians’ desire to fund this potentially life-saving research. Unfortunately, the sale of Prop 71 bonds has been slowed by legal challenges filed by anti-abortion groups. Under Phil’s leadership as Chair of California’s Stem Cell Research and Cures Finance Committee, $14 million of interim revenue was approved, allowing grants to be issued to 16 California non-profit institutions to train the next generation of stem cell researchers. Recently, Phil Angelides sent a letter to Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein thanking them for their continued leadership in the battle to fund and support potentially life-saving stem cell research.
