• Statement on Right to Choose:  California deserves a truly pro-choice Governor. Phil Angelides has always strongly supported a woman’s right to choose. As Governor, Phil Angelides will staunchly defend a woman’s right to privacy and autonomy over her own body, and will uphold and defend the California laws that make our state a leader in protecting women’s reproductive rights.
  
• Require maternity coverage. On Arnold Schwarzenegger's watch, the Legislature passed Sen. Jackie Speier's bill (SB 1555) requiring all health insurers to provide maternity coverage, so that expectant mothers get the coverage they need and there is gender equity in health coverage. Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill - Phil Angelides would sign it into law.
  
• Vote No on Proposition 85, the anti-choice parental notification initiative. Phil Angelides supports measures to ensure access to full reproductive health services. Proposition 85 would require teenage women to notify their parents before seeking an abortion, endangering teenage women in homes where there is violence, or where a family member has sexually abused them. A similar measure, Proposition 73 was rejected by the voters in 2005. Angelides strongly opposed Proposition 73 and has joined a broad coalition of doctors, nurses, medical associations, counselors, judges, lawyers and parents who oppose Proposition 85
