Investing in our Children’s Future

Phil Angelides will create more opportunities for our children to acquire high-wage, high skill jobs by investing in college opportunity and technical education. Phil will set a goal to increase the number of Californians who earn bachelor and associate degrees by 40,000 a year by the end of his governorship and will expand the number of high school graduates ready for work.

• Strengthen Counseling and Outreach.  Phil Angelides will double the number of school counselors and expand successful outreach and academic preparation programs to help disadvantaged students enter college and succeed there.
• Make College More Affordable. Phil Angelides will roll back Arnold Schwarzenegger’s college tuition and fee hikes and substantially expand state scholarship aid for deserving students. » Click here to read the Angelides College Opportunity for All plan.
• Create California Tomorrow Fellowships. Phil Angelides will award California Tomorrow Fellowships to as many as 10,000 California students a year who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in science, mathematics, or engineering.  » Click here to read Phil Angelides’ California Tomorrow Fellowships plan.
• Increase Rigorous Career and Technical Courses. Phil Angelides will increase by 50 percent the number of California Partnership Academies for high school students seeking work or community college certificates upon graduation.
